Join the GoWest Foundation in Helping Our Credit Union Community Impacted by the LA Fires

Credit unions and credit union associations are coming together across the nation to support those affected by the catastrophic wildfires sweeping Los Angeles County.

With five fires spread over more than 36,000 acres, the devastation to those with homes and businesses that have been destroyed is unfathomable. As “People Helping People” is not merely a motto, GoWest and our colleagues and partners at the regional and national levels are rallying around those affected by the LA fires.

The GoWest Foundation is committed to helping those in need and is making a $10,000 donation to the National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid disaster relief program.

The National Credit Union Foundation has supported credit union disaster relief efforts for decades, and every penny donated to CUAid goes directly to credit unions and their teams affected by natural disasters. CUAid helps credit unions, their employees, and volunteers fund short-term emergency needs in the wake of disaster. This aid provide needed relief so credit union teams can focus on helping their members.

Throughout the years, credit unions across the GoWest region have rallied to help people outside of our six-state region through natural disasters of all types – wildfires, ice storms, flooding, and hurricanes. The GoWest Foundation is proud to be a part of a movement that continues to put people first.

GoWest Region Fire Relief and Community Resilience

In recent years, the GoWest region has also faced significant devastation from wildfires, including the Gray and Oregon Road fires in Spokane County, Wash., the Durkee Fire in Baker and Malheur Counties in Oregon, and many others. These disasters have deeply impacted our communities, leaving lasting challenges for residents and businesses.

While it’s inspiring to see how motivated people are to help during and immediately after a disaster, the road to recovery and rebuilding is a much longer journey. Often, as public attention and media coverage fade so can support – leaving communities in need of sustained assistance.

GoWest is committed to ensuring that these communities are not forgotten. We are following up with members and industry partners in affected areas to see how they’re doing now and what support they continue to need to bridge the gap between initial relief and long-term recovery, ensuring resilience and renewal for all those impacted.
