Minnequa Works Credit Union Brings a Bite of Reality to Pueblo
Posted by Alyse Knudsen on April 30, 2025

On April 22, Minnequa Works Credit Union partnered with Corwin International Magnet School in Pueblo, Colo., to host the Bite of Reality financial education simulation – an immersive experience designed to teach students the importance of money management and smart financial decision making.
The event, made possible through a grant from the GoWest Foundation, brought real-world budgeting to life for 90 enthusiastic 5th grade students, guiding them through a day in the life of an adult, complete with careers, salaries, families, and financial responsibilities. Students were tasked with creating and maintaining a budget, while making decisions on housing, transportation, childcare, food, and entertainment, while managing unexpected expenses and navigating tempting spending opportunities.
Minnequa Works team members and dedicated volunteers from the credit union community played a hands-on role throughout the event, helping students learn the importance of financial literacy in a fun, safe, and high-energy environment. Laughter and excitement echoed through the room as students made connections between real-life decisions and the importance of thoughtful budgeting.
“Financial education starts early, and today’s event gave these students a chance to understand how the choices they make impact their financial future. We’re proud to partner with Corwin International Magnet School to bring Bite of Reality to life and support our local youth in developing strong financial habits,” said Melissa Romero, VP of Branch Operations
As a credit union committed to making a difference in Southern Colorado, Minnequa Works continues to invest in educational opportunities that empower youth and build stronger, financially healthy communities.
